it’s christmas night and all of your relatives have crammed into your house, chattering and chatting. the noise, the questions, the too-right hugs are getting too much, and so just after dinner you and your favorite cousin slip away to your room.
the pair of you curl up on your bed, minding not to disturb your cat, who is napping beside you. you quietly read a book, while your cousin listens to pink floyd, the volume of the headphones cranked so high that you can hear it.
the voices of the party are muffled outside your door, and you know that the right thing so to join them, yet the two of you remain silently as you are, savoring the moment, the song, the momentary somewhat silence.
