In The Slat with Kaz in His Of
Kaz catches himself staring out the window again, looking for the shadow of his Wraith. Instead, he is met with the harsh after effects of a Ketterdam winter. They don’t happen often, but when they do, the whole city stays inside. Kaz doesn’t care for the cold and he especially doesn’t care for it when winter temperatures drive customers away. The cold drives away kurge. Drives away her. Whlist filling through the ledgers and making adjustments to his investment portfolio, he can’t help but hate the storm for delaying Inez’s ship for another two weeks. Rifiling through a lower drawer, he procured a small package that he purchased the day she left. Another dagger. He sharpens it again for good measure and places it back in the box. Is it enough? To truly convince her of how much he missed her? No. Enough to show that he is without armour? Not by a long shot. Muttering a soft curse, he slumps down to his desk. Turning to the open window- the window with its freezing drafts that stands open for her- he can almost see her illuminated, seated form in the window. The gloomy, grey morning greets him, instead. Nothing to be done but work. Count the kruge. Count the days. Wait for the Wraith to return his Wraith to him. Until then, there is always another scheme to be run and a profit to be turned.
